So, you found an affiliate program that you really liked and applied, then were crushed (or enraged) when you got an email back saying that your application was declined. As an affiliate and as an affiliate manager over the past 9 years, I have dealt with this a ton of times and I have some advice on what to do to get what you want.

1. Keep your cool - lashing out at the affiliate manager who turned you down won’t help.
2. Send a thoughtful response - let the affiliate manager know why you want to work with them, how you plan to market their product or service, and what you think makes you a great fit for them.
3. Let your passion show through.
4. Give them a call - if a number is available (and it should be) give the manager a call and repeat step 1-3
5. Extend some Grace (mercy; clemency; pardon) We all make mistakes and sometimes, the affiliate manager can be busy and just make a snap decision that you don’t agree with

I think you will find that you’ll get that acceptance you habe been looking for within a day or two if the affiliate manager is on their toes.

How can you avoid the application drama in the first place?

Put your best foot forward in your application.

1. Make sure that you present the site or blog or email newsletter for review that matches up with the program you are applying for
2. Call or email the affiliate manager up front to let them know you are applying and to watch for it.
3. If the network or affiliate software they use doesn’t allow it or make it easy to present alternate or additional sites or marketing methods, include these in the email or phone conversations in advance.
4. If you are predominantly a Pay Per Click marketer, put together a page that explains how you market and link the application to it. This will eliminate the guesswork and the snap judgements that can lead to denials.
