I just received a press release from Mike McCartney from SinglesofFaith.com

PHOENIX - Dec. 7, 2007 - Since January 2007, Mike McCartney has traveled the country pursuing a very unusual goal - eliminating datelessness among single U.S. Christians. At first glance, McCartney’s motives might seem obvious - he is the founder of SinglesofFaith.com, one of the top Christian singles’ online introduction services in the world.

But far less obvious are McCartney’s methods. Rather than relying on personality profiles, photos or even compatibility tests, (though those are in place,) he would rather forge “love connections” between singles carrying shovels…or paint brushes…or ladles of soup and plates of food.

On Feb. 23, for example, McCartney is encouraging Nevada singles to take a different approach to meeting that special someone. Rather than dressing up for a night on the town, McCartney wants singles to put on some jeans and become part of an eager and ready labor supply during SingesofFaith.com’s first Las Vegas Workday.

Work groups will gather and head into Las Vegas’ most at-risk neighborhoods to help existing inner-city ministries and service organizations:

• Feed the hungry
• Distribute clothing to the homeless
• Visit hospitals, rest homes and shut-ins
• Tutor children and the illiterate
• Serve the elderly and disabled with home-based services
• Provide other acts of service to communities in need

McCartney said the vision for creating a special day of service for Christian singles in every state came after he pondered the question:

“If Jesus flew into our local airport and had an eight-hour layover before His next departing flight, what would He do with those eight hours?”

Based on his study of the New Testament, McCartney concluded that after ministering to needy individuals within the airport, Jesus would most likely travel to the city’s more at-risk neighborhoods to feed the hungry, clothe the homeless, heal the sick and comfort the hurting.

To date, that vision has driven McCartney to host eight SinglesofFaith.com Workdays in both major metropolises (Phoenix and Minneapolis) and smaller cities (Ames, Iowa; Fort Collins, Colo; Sioux Falls, SD.) His ultimate goal is to mobilize a “Domestic Peace Corps” on the third Saturday of each month in the 218 largest US cities.

I’ll be there in jeans and work gloves and we’d love to see you there as well to help out. If you’re coming to Summit, come out a day early and stand along side the members of SinglesofFaith.com and serve your fellow man like Christ did. The timeline is from 1-5 PM on Saturday the 23 of February (the day before Affiliate Summit) and the location will be announced.
